Services Provided by Better Endings

As an end-of-life doula, I work with clients to reflect on their life stories and connect the dots of their experiences. Some clients use this to work through lingering regrets, while others are inspired to create tangible remembrance projects.

Remembrance Projects

What Mattered and What Didn’t

Remembrance or legacy projects can take many forms, such as writing letters to loved ones, creating videos, compiling recipe books, or making photo albums. Engaging in a creative process to reflect on life can bring a new sense of purpose and peace during a time when it may feel as if control is slipping away. These projects often encourage meaningful conversations about end-of-life wishes and can help loved ones feel connected and maintain a sense of continuity.

Planning the Final Chapter

Your Life, Your Death

Maintaining a sense of agency by handling the plannable parts of the final chapter can be empowering. I help clients clarify and formalize their end-of-life wishes—who they want to be with, what they want to see, hear, and smell, and even what kind of music they want to play.

Some clients devise detailed tasks and rituals for visitors, such as lighting candles, reading poems, sharing stories, or having drinks. During vigils, end-of-life doulas help honor these wishes and support loved ones who might otherwise feel lost and helpless.

Companionship

You Are Not Alone

Even without the need for a life review or detailed plans, having someone nearby can bring comfort. It can be easier to share worries and hopes with a neutral person, without feeling like one is burdening friends and family. Sometimes, it's about having someone make tea, pick up groceries, put on a favorite tune, or read a beloved poem. Not everyone has loved ones nearby, and that’s where I can help.

More Than One Type of Support

End-of-life doulas offer a variety of supportive services that are customized to the unique needs of an individual and their loved ones. Some people work with a doula for many months while others bring them in to provide comfort and reassurance during the Vigil. Personalized services will be discussed with you and your loved ones.
